The District of North Vancouver is on a mission to erradicate Giant Hogweed. GVIPC is working hard to help them with this task and so far, we are well on our way. With at least 3000 plants killed so far, the District of North Vancouver has kindly recognized the work we are doing on the front page of their website! Check it out at www.dnv.org
Today the crew was working on a frequently reported area where Dollarton Hwy meets Hwy 1. Hundreds of Hogweed plants are lurking in the understory of a small forest. This work site is an excellent example of multiple jurisdictions coming together to fight the good fight together. This particular area belongs to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, District of North Vancouver and Squamish First Nation. All these land owners have come together to bring the GVIPC in to eradicate Giant Hogweed from the site. This is definitely one of the most challenging sites we have faced. District staff took photos today of their work and we will post them as soon as we have them.
